- 10 Questions to Ask Your DJ -
From USABride.com
We recently came across this article and thought we'd take some time and address each question they had to ask. Below is the article from usabride.com we answered their questions in red so you'll have an idea of what All Pro DJ's will do and what professional DJ companies should do in response to these questions.

Having a DJ at your wedding is no longer a choice just to save money. DJ's can offer a wider variety of music selections and styles that a live band sometimes cannot accommodate. So, here are some good questions to ask:

Question 1
Ask about the DJ's presentation. Ask them to explain how they will handle the details of the introductions, first dance, cake cutting, bouquet & garter and special requested dances. You want to be comfortable with the DJ's style and personality.
Using a Professional and quality DJ/Emcee from a reputable company will ensure that your event flows smoothly. This is usually done through a series of meetings with you the "couple." A good DJ/Emcee can easily make the transitions from introductions and toasts to your first dance and the other wedding traditions. All Pro DJ's wedding consultants will ease the stress of the wedding day decisions.

Question 2
Ask what he or she will be wearing. Some DJ's wear tuxedos... but don't count on it unless you ask.
Great question. All Pro DJ's team of professional DJ/Emcee's understands the importance of performing your event with a professional appearance. The attire can differ depending of the Wedding and formality of it. A western themed wedding on the "ranch" will most likely not require a Tuxedo, but the winter wedding in the Grand Ballroom will. We will discuss this with you during the consultation process, rest assured All Pro DJ's will maintain a professional look.

Question 3
Ask if the DJ will need to be provided a meal during the reception. Remember, it is your responsibility to provide them with a meal if they want one -- a hungry DJ is not a happy DJ!
Feeding the DJ is not always required but often helpful. Remember in most cases we've set up for the wedding/reception, been on hand for the formal introduction as well as kept the music playing and dance floor moving without taking a break. This, in my 20 years has never been a problem I have enjoyed great food from just about every catering company around, they are great about making sure we eat, and keep hydrated.

Question 4
Ask how many breaks the DJ will take during the reception and will there be music playing during these breaks?
After many years our DJ/Emcee's when working alone have mastered the art of a quick break when necessary. This is usually done using special CD tracks or Songs on computer automation. Not to worry All Pro DJ's will not disappear during your reception.

Question 5
Ask about the DJ's start and end times. Does the price include music during the cocktail hour and/or during dinner? Include this specific information in your contract.
All Pro DJ's will cover this during our Music Consultation meeting. The start and end time will be clearly stated and will include appropriate background music leading up to the time the party and dance music starts.

Question 6
Ask about song selections. Can you choose from a song list? Can you choose a "no play" song list? Does the DJ have a wide variety of song selections? Can the DJ play songs to suite the tastes of ALL your guests (maybe two or three generations).
All Pro DJs will work closely with you to cover the "must have" songs as well as any "Do Not Play" songs during the Music Consultation. All Pro DJ's will always bring its growing music library of tried, tested, and true reception classics as well as your favorite new songs too. You can rest assured All Pro DJ's has the experience to read the crowd and know which songs will work well for your guests. In most cases we'll provide a song request sheet during our Music Consultation meeting.

Question 7
Ask how many CD's the DJ will bring to the event. They may tell you that they have a collection of over 1,000 CD's but they may only bring 200 to the event.
All Pro DJ's will always have a vast music library on hand to accommodate you and your guest's request. Bringing thousands of CD's seem like overkill, think of it this way we'll play close to 20 songs each hour and your having a four hour reception. Trust that your All Pro DJ will bring the "Right" songs.

Question 8
Make sure you ask who will be performing at your wedding. If you are working with a DJ service, ask to meet with the DJ ahead of time.
All Pro DJ's will always give you an opportunity to meet with the DJ for your wedding several weeks or months before the date during one of the Consultation meeting. This in most cases is the DJ of your choosing based on the available talent for the event.

Question 9
Ask about equipment. A DJ should have professional sound equipment - not "home consumer" gear. Be sure that the DJ's speakers and sound system will accommodate your reception location. (Loud enough BUT NOT overpowering!)
All Pro DJ's uses only professional grade equipment that will be selected to best accommodate the room and number of guests. Lighting will in most cases provided that also is best suited for the room and type of reception you are having.

Question 10
Ask if they need a tablecloth or linens for their table(s). You don't want to take all the time to decorate your reception location and have the DJ table stand out because it is an ugly brown card table.
This in my 20 years of experience has never been a problem if the reception facility does not provide one All Pro DJ's will come equipped with its own linen or table skit to help maintain the appearance of your reception
